Communications Consultant

Mark Duffell

After ten years as a journalist and 15 years in PR and communications with FTSE 100 companies and one of the biggest legal businesses in the UK, Mark joined the MK team as a Consultant Director in October 2018.

He has previously worked at senior level for major brands including Centrica, Morrisons and Irwin Mitchell as well as covering major news, political and sports stories during his time as a journalist and producer with the Press Association, The Journal and the BBC. A shameless accumulator of gongs, he was named one of the Top 50 In-House Communicators by Prolific North in 2017 and, at Irwin Mitchell, led the three-time Outstanding In-House PR Team for Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

Alongside his work with MK, Mark is also the founder and director of MCD Communications Ltd, through which he works with clients in the energy and legal sectors.

His specialities include consumer, B2B and corporate media relations; crisis communications and management; public affairs; internal communications; and CSR.

Sadly, he has had less success away from work. He was, until recently, the world’s worst kart mechanic trying desperately not to ruin his son’s racing driver dreams by forgetting to fasten things on properly – but has now retired (or was sacked, depending on who you speak to). He is also equally inept at helping his horse-riding daughter but he’s incredibly proud of them both.

He remains a wannabe footballer, racing driver, rock star and Masterchef but is destined to stay a wannabe in each case. A proud Cumbrian, he is an ardent fan of his home town club Carlisle United, while also supporting Liverpool so he occasionally has a chance of supporting a winning team.
